In Memory of George Lang, Co-Founder, DataVantage
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of George Lang, co-founder of DataVantage, who died on January 18, 2026, at the age of 89.
George’s contributions to our industry were foundational. Working first with IBM’s IMS database management system, he went on in the late 1970s to develop the original DataVantage for IMS — the first-ever multi-dimensional DEV/TEST application software for mainframe computers. That innovation helped launch what would become a multi-billion-dollar database testing market segment, and it remains the foundation on which our company was built.
Beyond his technical legacy, George was known to those who worked with him for his generosity, his humor, and his integrity. He brought the same care to his relationships and his community that he brought to his craft — later in life serving as proprietor of the Good News Bookstore in East Northport, New York.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and by the countless professionals whose work was shaped by his innovative and visionary software.
